Despite being a sedge typically associated with moisture, Ivory Sedge is remarkably heat and drought tolerant, thriving on dry sandy limestone outcroppings.

It spreads slowly from rhizomes and is never aggressive, making it an ideal well-mannered ground cover for shady rock gardens.

The species name 'eburnea' means ivory-white, referring to the pale color of its tiny fruits.
