Unlike the invasive Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria), Winged Loosestrife is a well-mannered native that does not spread aggressively.
The stems have distinctive raised ridges or 'wings' running along their length, giving the plant its common name.
The pale purple petals have a darker purple mid-vein and resemble the texture of wrinkled tissue paper.
